National Carry AcademyConsidering a Team Plan at Home

Concealed carriers must be prepared at all times. You can never know when a situation will occur that will need a firearm. It may occur at work, in the middle of the highway, at a store, or even at home. Whatever happens, the important thing is to become ready when the situation occurs. There should be a plan for you to practice so that drawing of the firearm can be done quickly and effectively. In case you already have your plan, does it include your spouse, relative, children, friend or anyone that might be in your company?
This article will discuss the importance of including your company in you plan at home and some methods on how you can do it. This will be simpler than responding in an emergency situation in public.
The most common threats occurring at home include robbery, so there should be a set plan in place so you’ll know how to respond to the threat. If you are the only one at home with a firearm, your first priority should be to get to the firearm quickly if it is not accessible at the time. While you are working to get the firearm, other members of the household should seek cover. If there are other members of your household that are proficient with firearms, then let them have their firearms as well.
A team plan at home can lessen the chaos when a threat occurs. You should designate a point of shelter for the family to go into and cover themselves in case you are not home. It is also useful to have a secondary shelter if the original one cannot be used. The members of the household who have their firearms should also be oriented on how to respond to the threat. Assign someone who will take cover and another one who will face the threat.
Some carriers will choose to be with the whole family in their shelter to cover, and call the police for help, while others may choose to deal with the attackers believing that they have the right to do such in their own property.
Every individual is different, and every situation will need a different approach. But if you plan on facing the intruders and leaving the family armed in the shelter, have some sort of code word so your family would know when you already returned to the hiding place and in case shooting occurs, they will not have mistaken you from being the intruder when you return to them.
Whatever your team plan at home is, make sure that you will discuss and practice it with all the members of the household. It will help you and the whole family survive the encounter if you practice a possible scenario in advance.
