Women who have their own concealed carry permits and know how to defend themselves using firearms should be commended. They definitely made the right decision. However, most women are having problems with concealed carrying because of the way they dress and their body build. Petite women find it difficult to keep the handgun concealed properly at all times. Falia Leigh, 120-pound and 5-foot-4-inch tall, shared that: “Concealed carry can still be a headache on certain days, resulting in a pile of clothes, guns and holsters.”
Women who want to carry everyday find that it takes time ro find the right combination of clothing and holster that will fit their stature. As advice, to be able to find the right combination, you should first choose what handgun you would like to carry most of the time. From there, try different clothes and holsters that will provide more concealment. If you are not successful in finding the best holster, clothes, and carrying position suited for that gun, then use a smaller gun instead.
There are some cover garments that may help in providing more concealment for handguns like sleeveless vests. It is also important to choose a pants size that is one size larger than the ones you normally wear. This will provide space for your inside-the-waistband holster. For women using ankle holsters, wide-leg pants and floor-length skirts and dresses are recommended. Meanwhile, thigh holsters can be concealed by knee-length holsters and skirts.
At first, finding the right clothes, holsters and carry position can be very difficult for women, so it is highly advised to use only one carry location as much as possible. Once you get the hang of it, clothes and holsters suited for your handgun will be very easy to determine.
