Whether you are pro-gun control or pro-gun rights, everyone agrees that protecting American citizens is the right, and necessary thing to do.
We’d all like to think that the world in which we live is a safe place full of good, law-abiding people. However, look around you. Many crimes are mounting. It’s not a safe place. Bad things are going on. We all have to do our part to protect ourselves, our families, our neighborhoods and our property.
Many victims of violent crimes are unable to protect themselves because they are smaller or weaker or not as mobile as their assailants. Having a concealed carry weapon gives them a greater chance to defend themselves. This knowledge then gives them greater confidence that they have the skills and equipment to handle situations.
Training and practicing to be better as a marksman is a hobby for some. They enjoy the competition and the camaraderie. At the same time, they are learning to use a concealed carry weapon and to store and handle it safely.
People who carry a concealed weapon regularly become more aware of what is going on around them. This situational awareness can often be a lifesaver. This natural instinct is higher when you concealed carry. It puts you on high alert to potential dangers and makes you more able to handle them before they escalate. Everyone who carries a concealed weapon is prepared to use it at a moment’s notice. This awareness of deadly force alters not only one’s self-perception but also their perception of the world around them. It changes the way they look at their environment and the people in it.
The right to carry is your second amendment right. Some have warned that failure to exercise this important privilege may result in having it taken away. Clearly thirteen million Americans agree. That’s how many concealed carry permits have been granted. Add to that those who can carry without needing a permit.
In spite of the fact that the FBI has produced data to prove that violent crimes have been drastically reduced, we live in a time when few of us feel safe. Perhaps it is the perceived increase in mass shootings. Maybe it’s because every crime is aired in lurid detail by the media. It could be because we’re more informed about violence through the social media. Whatever the reason, many have chosen to concealed carry for safety and a feeling of security.
Many aren’t so concerned about mass shootings. For many concealed carry gives them peace of mind at work, in the car, and at home. They fear home break-ins, getting robbed at the gas station or having someone carjack them.
Realistically, leaving it to the police isn’t the answer although some will argue for this action. Police can’t be everywhere and they can’t be there immediately. Your having a concealed carry weapon may well stop a robber or a mugger.
