The Importance Of Having Backup Magazines

April 18, 2016

A responsible concealed carrier walks out of the house each day carrying his own gun for protection. Either you own a pistol or a revolver, it is a great decision that comes with too much responsibilities. This article will discuss combat sustainability.

Select A Pistol Size That Fits You

If the pistol that suits you is a smaller one, or the one with single or double stack, it really does not matter. What’s important is that when the time comes that you need to respond in a situation, you can use the gun confidently.

The capacity of your magazine must be considered as well. If you own a magazine that can only hold six shots, you will have problems when you encounter an attacker with a gun of more capacity than yours.

The Importance Of Carrying At Least One Spare Magazine

If a situation occurs that you run out of shots because of the low capacity of your magazine, the best solution is to have a back-up magazine.

For example, the Walther PPS is a single stack concealed carry gun with magazines that can only hold 6 to 8 bullets. In case you own one, are you gonna risk your life and bet that you can win against the attacker with only six bullets on hand?

To avoid this, you need to carry at least one spare magazine in your pocket or belt pouch. This will really make a difference. You can also keep one in a box or drawer that’s easy for you to access, just make sure that your state’s rules allows you to do so.

Those who are in the military are often required to have three magazines on their sidearms, but that’s just common when you’re always dealing with a combat environment and you expect trouble any time. The common sidearm used by them is the M-9 Beretta. It can hold up to 15 rounds. Having this with you is enough to make you feel ready for combat.

If you want to bring an extra magazine with you, it is also recommended that you use a magazine pouch that you can put on your waistband holster system. There are affordable ones that you can buy and this is another way of putting the spare magazine in your concealed carrying routine.

Disadvantages Of Concealed Carry Firearms With Large Caliber

If you own a larger caliber firearm like a .45 ACP or .40 S&W pistol, your magazine capacity will likely be sacrificed. This can be a hassle and risky when you are in a combat situation. Since your pistol has only a few rounds, you will need more spare magazines to back you up. But you also have to remember that having so many extra magazines with you won’t always guarantee that you’ll win, it’s the number of hits you’ve had with the enemy that will count.

You may also try changing the ammunition type you are using. If you are using the Full Metal Jacket one, switch to the Jacketed Hollow Point or other similar ammunition. This is more effective and will guarantee you that it can incapacitate the attacker more with every hit you make.

When carrying additional magazines, there is no recommended number of rounds that you should be able to bring. The point here is, you should not run out of ammunition when you are in a firefight.

If you upgrade your caliber or change to a smaller pistol size, make sure to have backup magazines all the time. And if you are using a full-size gun with 10 or more rounds, you will still need a spare magazine. So, if you can, change your habits and make the additional magazine a part of your everyday carrying routine. If you keep on doing this, you’ll be surprised at how your body will get used to it and how easy it is for you to carry those.
